Bavaros: Bocadillo and hamburger place. This little gem hidden on the edge of San Juan not only is open until 2am it also has a home delivery service!

Vending Machines: If all else fails and you decide to go straight home from Singular instead of going to Marengo there are always Pamplona vending machines. You be sure to find that lion bar or bag of Lay’s Receta de Campasita you can also find Batteries and Phone cards.

While it may sound gross at 3 in the morning a hot ham a cheese sandwich from the vending machine on Calle Ermitagana leaves no room for many questions. If you need batteries and other things, there’s a series of machines near Yamaguchi thats there in a pinch.

You probably could walk from one side of town to the other in less than an hour but just in case you have less time than that, here are a few suggestions of places to go:

1. El Caballo Blanco (one of the best places for a coffee in Pamplona, on the city walls)

2. Walls of Pamplona (Best place to watch the sunset on the foot hills of the Pyrenees. Really, amazing)

3. La Ciudadela (Great fort in the middle of town. Perfect for a football game or writing a novel)

4. Calle Estafeta (Where the bulls run, and great street for Pinchos)

5. La Puerta de Francia( Yeah, this has a totally sweet draw bridge)

6. La Cathedral (Great example of gothic and other styles of arqutecture. Random hours, but there is also a muesum around the corner

7. Parque Taconera there are live animals in this park… including an ALBINO PEACOCK!!!

8. El Rio Arga (Great for biking or BBQ’s… not at the same time)

9. Salir de Pintxos (this is the name for tapas in the north): Go out around 9:30pm and go eat the best bar food in the world. “God I’m so HUNGRY!” Say no more! If there is one thing Navarra has it’s good food. Here’s a few places I recommend for historic and gastronomical reasons:

Bar Iruña: One of Hemingway’s old stomping grounds… he had many as he liked the sauce.                     

Sarria Bar: Also know as “The Ham Bar” by foreigners due to all the cured ham hanging from the ceiling.

Bar Gaucho: Some pintxos can be pricey but for a good reason… the same reason they have won multiple victories during the “Week of the Pincho”

Trying to skype your mom? Sure we all are.

If you don’t have

an internet connection in your piso (apt.) this can be a difficult task.

Although Philanthropic vibes are not something that typically float around the Iberian peninsula, the free-shit wave is starting to hit Pamplona. Many new Wi-Fi hubs have popped-up in some choice places in Pamplona and more zones are on there way!

Here are a few places that we found that have free Wi-Fi (here pronounced Wee-Fee):

La Ciudadela: Big Fortress in middle of town. Look for the white balloon on the north end, the antenna is below.

Civican: Kind of the rec-centers of town but with cool cafes and different art expos.

Civivox Iturrama: Like Civcan just in the Iturama Area.

Parque de Yamaguchi: Large park located in San Juan. (near McDonald’s).

Cafe Florida: Large coffee house/restaurant. You may have to ask the Waitresses if it is not working, sometimes they shut it off.

The Harp: The only Irish owned and operated bar in Pamplona. Great place for a pint or if you like to drink… heavily.

The Wi-Fi signals around the parks have been put up by the city and don’t advertise the fastest internet speeds (around 4Mb/s). Much of the signal strength will depend on how many other people are using the service at the same time.

That’s all I know for now but the word on the street is that more wireless parks are on the way!

In case you have just arrived to Pamplona and think you can just go to any place to get a haircut… THINK AGAIN!!!

Any “peluquería” (salon/barber shop) might give you a haircut that you’ll remember for weeks to come; The Mullet.

The mullet’s origins seem to begin with David Bowie however the lines begin to be blurred with the likes of Uncle Jesse and MacGyver.

The mullet has made a firm stance in Pamplona, you have been warned…

Try and resist it’s persuasive nature if you can.

I would like to talk more about the origins and the different variations of hair-don’ts but this will require a break off into different topics such as Cro-Magnon anthropology… so I’ll do that in the next entry.
