Vampires

Pamplona at Night

Spaniards keep a different schedule than most Yanks, not to mention most of Europe. Spaniards are roughly four hours behind your typical American college student. I recall departing my apartment for a night on the town sometime around 22h00 to either tip a few over at a friend’s apartment or to commence the night at a bar boasting bouncers with dubious vigilance.

2464291767_21fa176714Aqui en España la gente sale a las 2h00. Yes, 2:00 in the morning to start the night (light drinking with dinner starts at 9:00 or 10:00). A normal evening out ends at 7h00 or 8h00. A big night can end at 10h00 or 12h00. The result of this schedule is that you should never call someone on the weekend before 14h00 at the very earliest, and 18h00 is certainly more prudent.

And if you deign to visit a Spaniard on a Sunday at 18h00 he or she will be en cama or way passed out on the couch. The blinds will invariably be drawn-the whole weekend-if you have the audacity to raise them, they will shriek in horror (I think their skin boils, as well). In short, Spaniards are vampires…often nicely tanned and beautiful, however. And the living dead are not limited to the young. Viejos can often be spotted roaming at all hours of the night.
